One must have exposure to good & bad things to know, what one musn’t do. If you don’t know what is bad, you probably will end up doing the bad thing.
This is particularly true in creative fields. As a student of music, I used to wonder about this; the same advice was given by my guruji. Listen more & more, from various artists, so I will learn how to apply my knowledge of music.
Building software is also creative work.
On similar lines, social networking is extremely important to be successful in business. If you have a business idea, how do you validate it? Bounce it off your network, discuss about it, then you will get feedback.
Sometimes, your network itself may the source of new business ideas!
